NEW YORK Anthony Weiner got a supportive reception during his first appearance in his New York City mayoral campaign.

People shook his hand Thursday outside a Harlem subway station. They asked him about issues ranging from police tactics to education and services for the mentally ill.

The Democrat told reporters he s encouraged that people are giving him a second chance and listening to his ideas.

Restaurant worker Joe Albaines says he considers Weiner to be a family man who cares about the middle class.

He says Weiner s scandal is between him and his wife.

Weiner officially launched his comeback campaign with a video posted online late Tuesday.

His mayoral bid is happening two years after a series of tawdry tweets capsized his congressional career.
