DALLAS -- If 14-month-old Jeremiuh could talk, he would surely tell his mama to wake up.

His mother, 20-year-old Kellie Seaman, has been in a persistent vegetative state since May 23, when the car she was riding in was hit by a drunk driver. The collision happened at South Ervay and Corinth streets near downtown Dallas.

Her skull was crushed into her brain.

I couldn't even recognize my baby - my daughter - except her feet, because she had this certain nail polish on, said Gina Bell, Kellie's mother. Her face was swollen like four times her regular size.

That's just the beginning.

The accident killed her friend, 25-year-old Jeremy Price, the son of a long-time Dallas police officer. Kellie was five months pregnant at the time of the accident. Her unborn baby boy also died.

Little Jeremiuh sustained broken ribs, a ruptured spleen, and a head injury, despite being strapped into a car seat at the time of the crash.

Kellie hasn't spoken, moved, or done anything with purpose since.

This is a parent's worst nightmare, Gina said, stroking her daughter's unresponsive head.

Kellie got a life sentence, added John Seaman, Kellie's father. We all did. Just to think that an adult would go out, knowingly, willingly, recklessly make a decision that they're going to put other people's lives in danger. Just because they want to drink?

This is something that's completely preventable, he said.

Kellie's family is ruined financially. Her family opened an account for anyone who might donate toward her medical expenses, which her father linked to on his blog. Her care has cost millions of dollars they have no hope of paying.

The suspect in this case, 26-year-old Matt Moore, is in the Dallas County Jail charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. There is no charge for the unborn baby. No bond is listed.

Kellie's parents hope their daughter's story sends a strong message about the life-long consequences of drinking and driving, not just for the suspect and victim, but for everyone.

This is our child, John said, What if it was yours?
