DALLAS Saturday is the grand opening of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. It s the new destination on the Dallas arts scene.
It features a dinosaur hall and interactive exhibits, but the cube-shaped building itself also is a teaching tool.
Parts of the structure at 2201 North Field St. are exposed to let in natural light. The elevators are open to show how they work. And the roof collects rain water and recycles it.
The $185 million facility is completely paid for by private donations, and is expected to rival museums worldwide.
Ground was broken for the museum at the end of 2009. After that, things took off. The topping-off ceremony was early last year.
Everything went so well that the opening date was even moved up.
