AUSTIN -- Hundreds filled the Frank Erwin Center for a memorial service to honor late University of Texas head football coach Darrell K. Royal.

Everyone from family and friends to former players and complete strangers attended the service Tuesday. Royal died onNov. 7 at the age of 88.
Hours before the start of the memorial, people were lining up at the doors of the Erwin Center. Inside crews set up check-in tables. There are tables designated for family and friends, special guests, as well as former players.
Among the first to arrive and wait outside for doors to open Tuesday morning were two former UT football players. Both played under Coach Royal in the 1960s and went on to win the National Championship.
Some of the best years of my younger life, recalled Tommy Ford, We won 30 ball games, only lost 2 and tied one.
As the public lines grew outside, Coach Royal s family gathered inside the center. This included his cousin, Coke Royal.
Coke Royal sat reflecting on the impact his cousin left behind. He dressed in burnt orange and wore a UT hat signed by both his cousin & Coach Mack Brown. Coke called his cousin an inspiration.
