HOUSTON The driver of a sport utility vehicle involved in a three-car accident that seriously hurt a woman on the Gulf Freeway ran away on foot, police said.

The woman was pinned between her car and the freeway s concrete barrier, according to the Houston Police Department.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the freeway near Dixie Farm Road, according to HPD.

Police said it all started when a woman driving a Nissan sedan broke down after hitting a guard rail. Two drivers, one in a pickup and the other in a sports car, stopped to help the woman and guide traffic around her.

That s when police said an oncoming Nissan Pathfinder slammed into the back of the good Samaritan s pickup truck, which then hit the man thatwas driving the sports car. The crash pinned the woman between her car anda concrete barrier.

Police said the driver of the Pathfinder that caused the crash ran away on foot.

It took firefighters more than an hour to free the trapped woman. She was sent to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The driver of the pickup and the sports car were also sent to the hospital to be checked out.

The northbound lanes of the freeway were closed for four hours.
