GALVESTON Saying he couldn t support any plan that returned low-income individuals to a ghetto, Galveston Housing Authority Board Chairman Irwin M. Buddy Herz resigned Thursday.
Later, Herz said he would stay on long enough to see housing authority Executive Director Stanley Lowe fired.
And still later, Herz rescinded his resignation, saying he had decided to give it another try.
Everything is day to day in Galveston, he said. It s a frustrating area.
The city and the housing authority are facing a Sept. 1 deadline to approve a plan for replacing 569 public housing units destroyed by Hurricane Ike in 2008 or face action including the loss of more than $586 million in federal disaster recovery aid.
