HOUSTON Harris County prosecutors have decided not to file charges against conservative radio talk show host Michael Berry, who was accused of leaving the scene of an accident.

A bouncer at a Montrose bar saidBerry hit his car then drove away on Jan. 31.

Tuderia Bennett said he later receiveda$2,000 check from Berry and a letter from Dick DeGuerin, Berry s attorney.

I wanted to make you aware that from the very beginning of HPD s investigation, Mr. Berry made it known to HPD that if they were of the opinion that he caused damage to your car, Mr. Berry wanted to make it right with you, the letter from DeGuerin said.

The letter said Berry, who once served on Houston City Council, wants to pay for the damages whether or not he s found at fault by Houston police.

Prosecutors say they decided not to pursue the case because paint samples from Bennett's car didn't match Berry's vehicle. They also said Bennett can't be found.

Berry has admitted he was at the gaybar, but he blasted news coverage of the incident Tuesday saying he was targeted because of his conservative views.

Really? I hate gay people? You jackass! You never listen to my show! Get your facts straight, you stupid fools, Berry said. I don t have to bash gays to prove that I m not one!
