TEXAS CITY, Texas April 16 will mark the 65th anniversary of a series of explosions and fires that killed 581 people and injured thousands of others.

The event became known as the Texas City Disaster.

Each year, the Texas City Museum and The Daily News team up to shoot of photo of survivors of the 1947 disaster.

This year s photo will be taken March 31 at the Phoenix Fountain in front of the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center in Texas City.

The annual photo shoot will include special recognition of survivors who also were students at Booker T. Washington School, which, at the time, was the all-black school in Texas City.
