HOUSTON Just three months after a deadly fire, the Houston City Council approved an ordinance Wednesday increasing fire safety inspections in home day care facilities.

The move came after four kids were killed and three others injured in a fire at a home day care operated by Jessica Tata in West Houston.

The new ordinance requires annual inspections that include checks on smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, exits and other fire prevention and safety measures.

Day care providers will have to pay $100 for the inspections.
