HOUSTON A cab driver was shot eight times during a carjacking and robbery in southwest Houston on Friday, according to Houston police.

The injured man was found by a woman in the Pines of Westbury apartments located in the 12600 block of Dunlap at Fonmeadow around 12:30 a.m.

Our victim was able to make it to two different apartments where he banged on the door for help, said Roger Chappell with the Houston Police Department. Some other people were going into their apartments and called 911 for him.

The victim managed to give her a few details of the shooting before emergency crews arrived.

He told me he was driving a white van and had some guys with him and they robbed him, she said. He looked very tore up because he was shot in his tummy and chest and everywhere. He had big holes coming out of his body.

The victim said he picked up four men from the Greyhound bus station near downtown Houston and drove them to the apartments. After arriving to the complex, the suspects shot him then took his van and wallet.

The victim was knocking on doors and begging for help when a woman returning home found him.

She said the man was really concerned about losing his van.

He just complained about his van, he complained, so he really wanted to know about his van, she said. He wouldn t even tell me what his wife s name was. So, I was like a van is not the issue right now.

She stayed with the injured man, but by the time police arrived, his condition had worsened.

The victim was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition and is currently on life support.

Meanwhile, hours after the shooting, a tip to Crime Stoppers led Houston police to the driver s minivan, which was abandoned in southwest Houston.
