HOUSTON Easter is Sunday. And while you don t have to scramble your budget to outfit your children from head to toe, you do have to get to a good resale shop or thrift store.

At Crayons Children s Resale, located in the 15900 block of Westheimer, you can buy high-quality, name-brand dresses for girls for $15.

We ve got Gymboree. We ve got Pitter Patter. It s the brands, said Crayons owner Gail Roben. If we re going to have a Walmart dress, it s not going to be priced at the $6.98, we ll have it at $4.98 or lower. We price it based on the brand and the condition.

Some dresses in the shop are brand new with store tags still on them, and others are barely used. Crayons also sells shoes, purses and a wide assortment of handmade hair bows. A complete outfit for a girl or a boy may cost $20, including clothing, shoes, socks or tights and a hair ornament.

One local mother of three said she can take $50 to a resale shop like Crayons and completely outfit her 1- and 2-year-old daughters. That money would not go very far at the mall, she said.

At the department store, I m going and I m finding one outfit for one child and that s not even including shoes, hair bow, stockings, socks, nothing, said Crystalee Tristan.

Easter outfits for girls and boys at Crayons range from $4 up to $15. The shop even carries doll-sized dresses to match some of their little girls dresses. Sizes range from pre-mature infants up to size 16.

Another benefit of shopping resale for your child s Easter outfit is that many resale shops allow consignment sales. It would be like renting your child s outfit. Consignment shops allow you to return the clothing to the resale shop for it to be placed back on the rack for sale. If someone else buys it, you and the store split the money. Typically, the split is 60 percent for you and 40 percent for the store.

As for Easter baskets on a budget, look no further than Blue Bird Circle Thrift Shop. Volunteers there have been making Easter baskets for 86 years. You can buy one for just $12.

Well we think they re worth $150 a piece ourselves, because of the time that goes into them, joked Pat Edwards, the basket-making chairwoman.

You can buy the multi-colored baskets at Berings Hardware, Rice Epicurean and at the Blue Bird Circle Shop. But hurry they sell quickly. The money helps support a clinic at Texas Children s Hospital. You can also purchase a half dozen hand-painted ceramic eggs for $10.
