ORANGE BEACH, Ala. Vacationers headed to Orange Beach in Alabama are being advised to stay out of the water because of recent shark sightings in the area.

Almost a dozen sharks can be seen on aerial footage, and now double red flags have been raised at Alabama Point East and Shell Lot, which means no swimming is allowed in the area at this time.

Officials said that people throwing fish carcasses in the water may have contributed to drawing the sharks closer to shore than normal.

Other areas in Orange Beach are flying yellow flags, but caution is still advised.

Many beachgoers are taking the warning seriously, but others are swimming despite the danger.

Shark attacks on the Gulf Coast are rarer than in the Atlantic, but they still happen.

Just last year a man was bitten by a shark in the water at Pensacola Beach.
