CONROE, Texas -- A local high school teacher who left 50 baby chicks out in the cold to die will not face animal cruelty charges.

Students at Oak Ridge High School were raising the chicks to display at the rodeo. The teacher left them in the woods the same day she resigned, and 37 died.

Prosecutors did not say why they didn't charge the teacher, but they did order her to surrender her teaching license.
