HOUSTON A man was hospitalized, but lucky to be alive, after he allegedly walked out into the street and was struck by a car Thursday night.

According to Houston police, the man was attempting to cross North Shepherd when he walked in front of a black Toyota that was traveling northbound on the road around 10 p.m.

The woman driving the car did not see him until it was too late, but did stop and wait for help to arrive.

The injured man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

No charges were expected to be filed against the driver.
