HOUSTON -- Two brothers, who recently relocated to Houston from Southern California, are hoping the wintry weather brings them an early start to the weekend.
Mark and Michael Theewes have never experienced a weather-related delay or cancellation at school.
Their family moved to southeast Texas from sunny Corona, California back in August. They never expected such cold weather could make its way to Texas.
It s safe to say they are making the best of it.
I m hoping there s no school tomorrow. Hopefully my teachers don t want this, said 12-year-old Mark Theeuwes.
Their mother received an e-mail from Spring Branch Middle School while the boys were at school Thursday. It says that the district will issue an early morning telephone message if weather delays or cancels school.
I m very excited about it, said 14-year-old Michael Theeuwes. I want to sleep in definitely.
As of Thursday night, Spring Branch and a number of area school districts, including HISD, Spring, and Katy, had not made any changes to Friday s school day.
Parents like Renee Theeuwes are now watching closely for any changes.
We may not be the best prepared for it, said Renee Theeuwes. It was nice to know the school district was. It was really nice to get the email and feel like someone was keeping an eye on it.
