HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- An early-morning auto-pedestrian incident killed a man in north Harris County, deputies said Monday.

According to the Harris County Sheriff s Office, it happened around 3:30 a.m. as the victim tried to cross from the southside of W. Mount Houston Road to the northside near I-45.

A number of drivers apparently managed to miss hitting the man and later served as witnesses to the incident.

Several vehicles were driving westbound on W. Mount Houston, said A Gray Tahoe was traveling in the right lane, and the Tahoe struck the pedestrian, and pedestrian died at the scene.

The driver of the SUVstayed at the scene, deputies said.

As of 6:45 a.m. traffic in the area remained slow as deputies blocked some lanes of W. Mount Houston for the investigation.

The victim s identity was not released, but deputies said he was a middle-aged male who may have been staying in a nearby homeless camp.
