HOUSTON The search continues for the gunmen who ambushed an 80-year-old man on his driveway Monday night.

The victim s wife said he had just pulled up to their home on South Acres Drive east of Cullen around 10:15 p.m.

As he was getting a bowling ball out of his truck, she said he was approached by two men in a white car. One of them had a gun and demanded her husband s wallet and keys.

When he did not hand them over, the gunman fired two shots.

One of the bullets went through the man s leg. The other scraped his ear. His wife, who did not want to be identified, believes it would have killed him had it been just a few inches over.

She pointed out that it happened near a crucifix on their driveway and she believes prayer saved her husband. He was treated and released from Ben Taub Hospital.

As for the bad guys, they sped away without taking anything.

They don t want to work, they re on drugs, and they need help, she said.

She said those were reasons she will be offering up prayers for them, too.
