HOUSTON -- New METRO light-rail lines are coming to downtown Houston.

Construction related to new lines requires street closures this weekend.

METRO says Main Street between Texas and Walker will be closed starting at 7 p.m., Friday until 4 a.m., Monday.

Businesses and residences in the area will remain open and fully accessible.

Due to the construction, there will be no rail service between the UH-Downtown and Downtown Transit Center stations from 9 p.m., Friday through 4:30 a.m., Monday.

METRO says shuttle buses will operate between the Downtown Transit Center and Franklin Street every 10 minutes during normal service hours on these days. Regular rail service will continue between Fannin South and Downtown Transit Center Stations.

Medical Center and Museum District passengers will not be affected by this weekend s construction.
