HOUSTON -- Police evacuated the historic River Oaks Theater on Saturday night after some type of emergency was reported.

Patrons were asked to leave the theater and line up across the street on West Gray as police searched the building. Management refused to comment on the situation, but a worker said it was a serious emergency.

Officers with the Houston Police Department were called to the movie theater around 7:45 p.m. They left the theater about an hour later as it was announced it would remain closed for the rest of evening.

HPD also declined to comment on the theater's evacuation.
