MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas A toddler remained in critical condition Wednesday while her mom faced serious charges following a suspected DWI wreck north of The Woodlands, according to troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday north of FM-1488.

Troopers said Esther Anderson, 39, was driving on Carriage Hills Boulevard when she lost control and slammed into a tree. The wreck crushed the passenger side of the mother s 2004 GMC Envoy.

Troopers said Anderson s daughter was not secured and was seriously injured.

The two-year-oldgirl that was in the car at the time was not secured in any fashion no car seat, no safety belt, said Sgt. Angela Fountain According to a witness who had last seen them, the two-year-old girl was standing up near the center console, so we believe she s very fortunate to be alive.

DPS officials said they found an open beer can in the truck. They believe the can was between the mother s legs when the wreck occurred.

Troopers said because of the child s injuries, a mandatory blood draw was performed on the mom. She was held overnight in the hospital and was set to be taken to jail to face charges of intoxication assault and injury to a child.

Troopers said the suspect s husband showed up at the scene, and he was questioned by deputies who later determined he had an outstanding warrant out of Montgomery County for child abandonment. He was then taken to jail.
