HOUSTON Police say they've identified the suspect whobrutally attacked and raped an elderly woman in her southwest Houston home nine years ago.

Wesley Bernard Gordon, 40,has beencharged with aggravated sexual assault of an elderly or disabled person. He is still on the run.

The victim, who is now 86 years old, recalls sitting at the dining room table in her N. Braeswood apartment on August 8, 2003. She was 77 years old then. She had been going over her monthly billswhen a man suddenlygrabbed her from behind, according to police. The suspect dragged her to her bedroom while she screamed for help, but her cries were unheard.

The suspect punched the woman in the face, then threw her to the floor and told her to shut up.

Shestopped screaming and began praying to God because she thought she was going to die.

Police said the suspectripped off the victim s clothes and raped her for at least ten minutes. The woman said she never stopped praying.

The rapistgrabbed the woman's piggy bank and purse before leaving the apartment, according to court documents.

Once he was gone, the bruised and battered victim wrapped herself up and called police.

The woman could not give a description of her attacker because she suffers from a degenerative eye disease.

She was taken to Southwest Memorial Hermann Hospital and given a rape kit examination. That evidence was sent to the HPD Crime Lab for analysis and entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

On September 21, 2012, the CODIS Program at the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab notified investigators that they had a match. DNA evidence matched the unique genetic profile of Gordon.

Gordon has a long rap sheet dating back to 1989. This is the fourth time he's been charged with rape.
