HOUSTON A man is facing serious charges after police say a Cash America Pawn employee found child-porn images on a pawned cell phone.
Charges of possession of child pornography were filed against 32-year-old Deny Palencia on August 9, 2012.
According to court documents, Palencia pawned a Samsung Galaxy S phone at the Cash America on Broadway on May 2, 2012.
The transaction was captured by surveillance cameras.
The store employee said as she was cleaning out the cell phone so she could sell it, she found numerous images that she believed were child pornography.
She notified police, who seized the phone and got a warrant to search it.
Investigators said they found 966 suspicious images on the phone, which they sent off to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
On February 2, 2012, they got a report back from the NCMEC, identifying 173 of the images on the phone as known child pornography.
