HOUSTON KHOU 11 News has learned two patrol officers with the Houston Police Department are now in custody for allegedly stealing cocaine and other illegal narcotics from drug dealers.

Officer German Ramos, 36, and Officer Kendrick Ferguson, 33, were arrested Tuesday night after a lengthy investigation by HPD s Internal Affairs Division, HPD confirmed.

Both were assigned to HPD s Northwest Substation and were on duty when SWAT officers confronted and arrested them.

One officer was arrested in the substation parking lot and the other was apprehended while traveling in his personal car along the Katy Freeway.

Sources tell KHOU 11 News that the two patrol officers have been with the department for only a few years.

Both officers have been relieved of duty with pay pending outcome of the investigation.

Ramos and Ferguson were being held in the Harris County Jail.

A third person 38-year-old Alex Matos, who is not a police officer was also arrested and charged in connection with the case.

Sources close to the investigation said the three men first met at aHouston barwhere they allegedly hatched their plot to steal drugs from drug dealers.

Police said they were all charged with possession of drugs with intent to distribute.

They could face anywhere from 5 to 99 years in prison if convicted.
