Dayton topples Tivy, and looks towards a title

HOUSTON- Many people ask what defines a great player? On that can single handedly change the outcome of a game. Last week verses Tivy, Cody Green continued to define himself as a great player, willing Dayton a win in the State Semi-Finals. Green not only threw for 132 yards and two TD's, but he also kicked the game winning field goal with no time left on the clock.

AJ Dugat started off the scoring for Dayton off a 6 yard run. But, Back to back scores put the Broncos in a 14-7 whole when Cody Green took over on offense, hooking up with Payton Ploch on a 29 yard TD pass, to tie it up at 14 all.

Dayton started the second half by housing the opening kick off, as Cameron Lacour ran it back 93 yards to give Dayton the lead.

Tivy would score twice after that, taking the 28-21 lead over Dayton, until Cody Green struck back on an 8 yard pass TD pass to Damian Berotte for the tie.

Dayton got the ball back for their player maker once more, putting the ball in Cody Green's hands. Green kicked a 24 yard field goal with no time left for the win.

Dayton moves on to the 4A State Semi-Finals with their 31-28 victory over Tivy, where they will face Sulphur Springs at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.

Offensively, Dayton has been led all year by Cody Green and AJ Dugat, who have accounted for the majority of their yards and points.

Cody Green is a dual threat QB who has gained 4278 total yards and 56 touchdowns. Green has thrown for 2,866 yards and 31 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions, while running for 1412 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground.

Stats like that are hard to ignore and it is obvious that Green is Dayton's primary weapon and the key to the Broncos' success.

AJ Dugat is Green's favorite target, hauling in 104 receptions for 1617 yards and 18 touchdowns at receiver, while still rushing for 549 yards and 7 touchdowns.
