MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas State troopers say a 15-year-old boy was killed when the young girl he was riding with slammed into a tree in a Conroe-area neighborhood overnight.

The Cut and Shoot Fire Department and Montgomery County Fire Department responded to White Oak Orchard near Hill Top around 10 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said a 14-year-old girl was driving a red Mazda sedan westbound when she ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed. She lost control of the vehicle and then struck a tree head-on.

Neighbors heard the accident as it unfolded.

I just heard a big explosion, said Barbara Luther.

Anthony Gomez s family said he was just supposed to park the car out front. Instead, his friend got behind the wheel and sped off. Just a few minutes later and one block from home, she lost control. Anthony was partially ejected through the windshield and pronounced dead at the scene.

At that age they feel invincible, said Irma Gonzalez, Anthony s grandmother. Especially behind a car.

Anthony s family dropped off flowers at the spot where he died. His family tells KHOU that the boy s mother lives in Honduras. Their plan now is to raise funds to get Anthony s body back to his mother, so she can see her son before he s buried.

Neighbors say speeding is a problem along that stretch of road.

All they do out here is race and speed, said Luther.

The teen girl who was driving was sent to the hospital in stable condition.

The Montgomery County District Attorney s Office and the Montgomery County Attorney s Office were both notified and are assisting in the investigation and any pending charges.

Troopers said the crash was made even worse because the vehicle s airbags did not deploy. They later determined that, at the very least, the passenger s airbag was missing.
