HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of his wife at a northeast Harris County home, according to court documents.
Ryan Burgs, 28, faces a felony charge of murder.
Court documents say Burgs called 911 early Monday morning to report that he had shot his wife as she came at him with a butcher s knife at a home in the 13000 block of Peppergate Lane. Burgs stayed at the scene and told investigators his wife, 27-year-old Julianna Gordon, would not put the knife down, so he shot her multiple times.
Investigators looked over evidence at the scene, including bullet trajectory, and determined Gordon was shot as she lay on the floor. A knife was found near her body.
Documents say other evidence included a text message sent by the victim shortly before her death. The message, sent to a friend, included a photo with a caption that indicated the suspect had stuck a loaded shotgun in her chest. The photo showed a circular bruise on her chest.
Burgs was taken into custody, and his bail was set at $250,000.
According to court documents, Burgs said he and his wife had been separated for several years, but they had three children together.
In 2012, a restraining order stemming from an alleged assault was dropped again Burgs due to lack of evidence.
