HOUSTON Some people who sell Air Jordan tennis shoes over the internet are taking extra precautions following the release of the latest version of the popular shoe.

You can never be too safe, said Chidera Mozie, a 20-year-old college student who advertises Air Jordans on Craigslist.

You have people who want to meet you in private places but I will only meet them in mall parking lots, added Mozie.

Over the years, the frenzy surrounding Air Jordans has led to shootings, murders and robberies.

On Thursday, authorities in Humble were called to the scene where two men were held up at gunpoint. The victims had advertised the shoes on Facebook and got robbed when they met up with the would-be buyers.

They had two pairs of shoes with them and they were showing them to the juvenile suspects, said Lt Walter Stensland with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable s office. The juveniles stole both pairs of shoes.

They dropped the shoes as they ran away and a neighbor helped lead authorities to the suspects.

Mozie says the danger drives him not to take chances.

I m not losing my life over a shoe and you ve got some crazy people out there.
