HOUSTON- Losing, always hurts. Falling to your rival? Even worse.

That s what Rice experienced on September 21, dropping a 31-26 decision to the Houston Cougars. But if you saw them on September 22, you would ve thought nothing was wrong.

The sun shined at Rice Stadium and the Owls were on the field, but not fixing mistakes from the previous day. Instead, they were hosts for a group of athletes.

Like they ve done in years past, head coach David Bailiff and his team welcomed kids and young adults with special needs for a chance to experience what it s like to be a football player.

The Owls players acted as buddies , teaching football technique or even pushing some of their guests to get that rush of moving down the field.

This wasn t mandatory for the players and it was completely optional. Getting some smiles alone was worth the time, but learning how to appreciate what they have was the true reward.

Feeling like a champion doesn t always involve winning.

Experiencing one moment that lasts a lifetime, is sometimes more than enough.
