CONROE, Texas People at a Conroe car wash tried to wash away their grief on Thursday following word that a co-worker and good friend had been murdered over his cell phone.

I couldn t believe it, said Wilker Matute. That could never happen. I would have never thought of that.

The crime occurred Tuesday evening at MLK Park in Conroe.

Authorities said Geovany Ponce-Reyes was sitting in his car waiting to play basketball when he was shot to death during a struggle over his phone.

The shooter, 19-year-old Jerome Faggin fled the scene, but police found him a day later and booked him into the Montgomery County Jail. He was charged with murder and given a half-million dollar bond.

The victim, who was also 19, graduated from Conroe High School in early June.

It s not right, said Domingo Lopez, who owns the car wash where Geovany had worked for three years.

It s not fair, he said. That person is crazy.

Police said their investigation was ongoing and believed there could be others involved.

A makeshift memorial was erected near the scene of the shooting.

The victim s friends came to pay their respects.

I m going to miss everything about him, said Matute. They left a big hole in a lot of people s hearts.
