DETROIT After traveling to Michigan the first day of free agency, Houston Texans free agent safety Glover Quin has agreed to a 5-year deal with the Detroit Lions.

The news was reported on the Lions Twitter feed.

Quin, who was a top priority for the Texans, had his best season in 2012, leading the team in tackles with 84. He also had two interceptions.

Just want to say thank you to the Detroit Lions organization and coaches for giving me an opportunity to continue my career!!! - said Quin on Twitter.

The Texans elected not to franchise Quin despite not having someone that could fill the void if he decided to leave during free agency. Other than Danieal Manning, the only other safety on the Texans roster is 3rd year man Shiloh Keo out of Idaho.

Quin is the second player in 2 days to leave the Texans via free agency. TE James Casey signed a 3 year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday.

Thank you to the Texans for giving me an a opportunity to start my career in the NFL and have 4 goods years with them!! added Quin on Twitter.
