HOUSTON A man was taken into police custody Friday after he walked into a convenience store in east Houston and tried to shoot himself.

It happened at about 2:15 p.m. at a Texaco located in the 9100 block of Clinton Drive.

The man came inside the gas station and grabbed the clerk s gun, witnesses said.

He held the weapon to his head and pulled the trigger two times, the clerk tried to stop him, John Bowman said. They started struggling with the weapon, that s when he pointed it toward me, once he pointed it toward me, I left out the store.

Police said the man is a neighborhood regular and that he appeared to be under the influence of something.

Air 11 video showed several police cars surrounding the gas station.

No one was injured.
