Neighbors Donna Lawrence and Glenda Hagler saidthey had always suspectedthe home was a stash house for undocumented immigrants. Their suspicions were confirmed when a man ran to Halger'shouse Sunday night, pleading for help in Spanish.

He put a gun to his head like somebody had been trying to kill him, Halger said. He had a broken foot, a torn foot, and when he got up to walk, it looked like somebody had been beating him.

Hagler said she called 911 and gave the man a sandwichbecause he looked malnourished and in bad shape.

He was starving. We fed him a bologna sandwich and he inhaled it, Hagler said.

When authorities showed up at the residence, the men staying at the home scattered, neighbors said.

HPD has told us today they are on it, and they are gonna start cleaning out the neighborhood, Lawrence said.
