HOUSTON--A now former St. Thomas High School Wrestling coach is stirring up a lot of concern after he was arrested on child porn charges. Many parents say they are appalled by the accusations against 29-year-old Gordon Oehmig.

Oehmig was previously named Coach of the Year. Parents say he also helped coach football at the all-boys Catholic School.

According to documents, investigators seized approximately 1,500 digital images and 900 digital videos from his home computers. Police allege he was sharing the disturbing files featuring children as young as one-year-old.

St. Thomas announced on its website that Oehmig has resigned from his position. The school was closed on Friday for a faculty and staff retreat.

On Friday, parents arrived for a football game on the school s campus, and many were talking about the case.

It could happen anywhere, in the mall or anywhere. You just never know. You have to be careful and teach your kids, said Blanca Gonzalez, whose son is a freshman at St. Thomas.

Oehmig was arrested at his home in Montrose after a month-long investigation.

I don t believe any of it. I really don t. I d have to see the proof, said a grandparent who only wanted to be identified as Grant.

A former St. Thomas baseball coach says, sadly, he is not surprised by the charges.

In today s society, no it s not shocking unfortunately. It s everywhere. I m not shocked by it, but I m sad to see that this has happened, said Marty Ross.

Police have no evidence that Oehmig ever touched any minors. However, they are concerned because he worked so closely with students.

The 29-year-old was also the assistant wrestling coach at Episcopal High School. He worked and volunteered at a number of local wrestling organizations.

He is out of jail on bond, awaiting a Monday court appearance.

Oehmig faces five counts of possession of child pornography.
