HOUSTON An alleged stalker shot a waitress and took her hostage at a restaurant in southwest Houston, police said late Monday night.

The victim s brother told KHOU 11 News the alleged shooter stalked his sister for months and even tried to rape her.

He showed upat closing timeMonday at the La Pupusa Loca restaurant in the 7200 block of Hillcroft Street, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the suspect, 48-year-old Ramon Aguilar, went into the business and got into an altercation with the waitress, later identified by family as Daysi Pineda.

Aguilar shot Pineda in the torso before taking her and another waitress hostage, police said. At one point, he let the other woman leave.

During the three-hour standoff, Aguilar threatened to take his own life and shot himself in the leg. He finally agreed to surrender around 1:30 a.m.

When police went inside, they found Aguilar hugging Pineda, who was badly injured and bleeding.

Pindeda was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

She s a good girl, said the woman s boss, Ernesto Larin. I feel sorry for her mother.

Larin said he had ongoing issues with Aguilar turning up at his restaurant and went to court to get a temporaryrestraining order against him.

Family memberssaid the suspect has a history of bizarre behavior.

He had an obsession with her and tried to make her his wife or girlfriend, said Edwin Landeverde, the victim s brother. Three or four months ago he tried to rape her, and we all told her she needed to do something about it, but she just kind of stayed quiet, and now this is what happened.

He would try to give her gifts like rings or flowers, something to pretty much buy her, Landeverde said.

Police said Aguilar is facinga charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
