HOUSTON -- Mike Davis is assembling his new staff at Texas Southern.

The former Indiana coach is in the process of hiring assistants after he took the job at the small Houston school on Aug. 2..

The 51-year-old Davis most recently coached UAB from 2006-12, following a tumultuous stint at Indiana. Davis succeeded Bob Knight, who was dismissed by school president Myles Brand in September 2000. The Hoosiers won 21 games in Davis first season, then made an unlikely run to the national championship game in 2002.

Indiana extended Davis contract through the 2007-08 season, but the Hoosiers couldn t maintain their success. Indiana went 29-29 between 2003-05, falling short of the standard Knight established. The Hoosiers went 19-12 in 2005-06, and Davis resigned under pressure.
