HOUSTON A man was shot and killed Tuesday outside a Texas Parole Division office in northwest Houston, police said.

It happened at about 8:30 a.m. on 4949 West 34th Street.

Marcus D. Celestine, 43, had met with his parole officer and was walking out into the parking lot when he was shot several times, police said.

He was coming out of the parole office, after an interview, because he was told to come back later, he got shot, said Adam Navarro, a witness. Supposedly there was a guy hiding out in the bushes dressed in all black.

The suspected shooter fled as a passenger in a white van, police said. Celestine died before paramedics arrived.

Celestine was a parolee and was convicted of aggravated robbery and murder in 1994, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He served part of a 25 year prison sentence and was paroled in 2007.
