HOUSTON -- Two suspects remain on the run after they ditched a stolen car on the Southwest Freeway during a chase early Tuesday, officers said.
The car crashed and then caught on fire as the men ran away.
It all happened around 1:30 a.m. when an officer with the Houston Police Department ran the license plate of a passing vehicle on Gessner, and the car came back reported as stolen.
The officer attempted to pull over the car but the driver allegedly refused to stop. He led police up and down the frontage road of the Southwest Freeway before getting on the northbound mainlanes heading southbound.
Police said the driver and a passenger bailed out of the vehicle near the Bissonnet exit and ran away. The car kept moving and hit a police car and another driver before stopping it then burst into flames.
The suspects got away as the stolen vehicle burned up, but no injuries were reported.
Police said the vehicle was stolen just two days earlier.
