HARRIS COUNTY, Texas Deputies have canceled the search for a teenage boy who was reportedly armed with a gun Monday near several schools in Katy.
Harris County Sheriff s Deputies set up a search perimeter starting around 8 a.m. in the Lake Ridge subdivision. Nearby Mayde Creek Elementary, Mayde Creek Middle School, and Mayde Creek High School were all in secure status until 9:30 a.m.
Many students tweeted that they were not allowed to leave class while the search was taking place.
Officers were scattered in various parts of the neighborhood looking for the teen boy.
K-9 units and a Texas DPS helicopter assisted in the search, which was suspended shortly before 11 a.m.
Dan Rowlen said he was in his garage as a DPS helicopter flew overhead and a deputy stood watch with a rifle.
And he was motioning for everyone to get inside. And it was a little scary. We didn t know what was going on, he said.
That was when he said he saw something unusual across the street.
Out of the corner of my eye I looked over and I saw a guy in a really, kind of a burgundy maroon colored dark red shirt jumping that fence. And so I alerted the police officers, Rowlen said.
Law enforcement officers had been searching throughout the Lake Ridge subdivision for the teenager.
Rowland feared trouble could be close.
Our granddaughter, her school was on lockdown, and we kept her inside and made sure my wife was inside the house and the doors were locked, he said.
Officials are clear that nothing suspicious took place on any of those campuses, but rather, near them.
But exactly what is a mystery, along with that teen s whereabouts.
