HOUSTON A suspect in a five-hour SWATstandoff in southwest Houston Tuesday surrendered when tear gas was thrown into his house, police said.

It all began around 9:15 a.m. when the man doused a neighbor and a deliveryman with lighter fluid and threatened to set them on fire before he barricaded himself inside his home located in the 7000 block of McCullum, police said.

Police said when officers responded the man refused to come out, so SWAT was called at about 11 a.m.

He surrendered around 2:20 p.m.

The man s family said he may have been on drugs.

As a precaution during the SWAT investigation, Briargate Elementary was on lockdown and Fort Bend Independent School District police officers were at the campus, according to the district s Chief Communication Officer Nancy Porter.

No one was injured during the incident.
