HOUSTON -- A Vietnam War veteran had his damaged home repaired Thursday thanks to volunteers from Home Depot.
A small army from Team Depot finished its renovations to Danny Britton s southeast Houston home.
Britton was stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War, serving in the air force.
This can show the whole world we do get something in return and it s a good thing, he said.
The Brittons, married and in their South Park home for 43 years had health problems and much more.
We had damage during Ike and we could never get any help. He had lost his job and we were just in a bind, Carolyna Britton explained.
Thankfully, the reinforcements came.
Being a vet myself, I can t resist opportunity to come out and help Mr. Britton today, said Team Depot member James Harris.
For two months nationwide, some 9,000 Home Depot volunteers will tackle 350 service projects to help vets. In the last five years, Team Depot s efforts have meant $80 million worth of help.
The Britton s renovation includes landscaping, new siding, roof repairs, and a paint job.
Danny Britton is thankful to Home Depot and also a higher power.
I m grateful to God because none of this happens unless he orchestrates it, he said.
There is even a swing set for the great grandchildren.
I wanted to dance but I can t. That s how happy I am, Carolyna Britton said with a smile.
