GALVESTON, Texas -- The Galveston County Health Department has lifted all advisories for the beaches along Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula.

On Wednesday, 17 beaches on Galveston Island posted advisory warnings of high levels of bacteria in the water.

Whenever you have a lot of rain, things that elevate bacteria levels usually get into the waterways, said Galveston County Health District spokesman Kurt Koopmann. Some months we have no advisories, and sometimes we have many.

According to the Galveston County Health Department, swimming is now recommended.

Have a safe Labor Day weekend!
