HOUSTON - Four smash-and-grab crooks smashed a huge hole into the side of a Valero in northwest Houston early Thursday, police said.

The incident happened in the 2500 block of Gessner north of Hammerly around 3:30 a.m., according to officers with the Houston Police Department.

Police said four men used a stolen Ford F-350 to back into the side of the Valero in an attempt to make off with the ATM. They caused a lot of damage but eventually gave up and left empty-handed.

A store clerk was on duty at the time, but no injuries were reported.

The men were never seen again, but police found their abandoned truck just a few blocks away.
