CARROLLTON, Texas More than 200 family and friends gatheredat Newman Smith High School on Sunday nightto remember the life ofGerson Lagunez, 16, a standoutstudent, cross-country star and band member.
The junior died late Friday afternoon after playing frisbee.
Described as charming and always a giver, the candle light vigil on Sunday gave those who knew the young man best an opportunity to remember him.
All of you have stories with him, said Xiadani Lagunez, Gerson's sister.
Gersonhad just finished up playing a game of Ultimate Frisbee at a park off Keller Springs Road, when he suddenly collapsed on the walk home.
The teen's father told News 8 Gerson had a heart murmur, and they think that may have played a factor. Autopsy results are still pending.
He touched a lot of lives, said Gerson's father, Enoc Lagunez. He was a very good Christian and a very good son. We are so proud of him.
Enoc said his son was dedicated to helping others and showed pictures of a recent missiontrip to the Caribbean.
A memorial service is slated for Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at2700 Christian Parkway in Farmers Branch.
Grief counselors will be on hand at the high school all week long.
