PEARLAND A shoplifting suspect allegedly threatened a Pearland store owner with a screwdriver after he chased her down Wednesday morning. When a police officer tried to pull her over, she led him on a chase through a Pearland neighborhood, according to Pearland police.

The clerk told police the young woman tried to buy some cigarillos, but didn t have a valid ID. When he refused to sell them, the woman allegedly grabbed a pack of 99-cent Zig Zag cigarillos and ran out of the store.

The store owner pulled up and saw what was happening, so he followed the suspect s vehicle around Old Town Pearland.

The owner caught up with the suspect near the 2000 block of Mykawa and told her he was on the phone with police. Police say the woman pulled in front of him, put her car in reverse and smashed into his vehicle. She then grabbed a screwdriver, jumped out of the car and acted aggressively toward the store owner before driving away, according to police.

The store owner flagged down a Pearland police officer who tried to stop the suspect but she kept going. He chased her through Brookside Village, then back onto Mykawa. The chase ended when the woman crashed near Mykawa and Orem.

The 17-year-old woman was taken into custody.
