HOUSTON A man who stopped to help a pair of motorists involved in a minor accident onthe South Loopwas killed late Tuesday after a second crash occurred, according to the Houston Police Department.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. near the exit forStella Link Road.

Police said two vehiclesinvolved in a minor crash came to a stop in the main lanes of the freeway. Larry Thomas who was passingby alsostopped and got out of his car to see if anyone needed help.

Investigators said an oncoming carthen rear ended Thomas sedan, and he tried to run across the freeway to avoid being hit.

Asport utility vehicle failed to stop in time and struck him. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In all, five vehicles were involved in the incident. One other person reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Thomas was a 57-year-old grandfather who was on his way to check on an elderly relative when he was killed. His family said he was a devout member of the Everlasting Covenant Church.
