IRVING, Texas-- The older brother of a 6-year-old Irving boy found dead in a field in Maine spoke out Friday.

Ian McCrery, 23, has called his mother, who is accused in the death of her Camden Hughes, number one.

While he said he can't understand what happened, he said he believes there must be another part of the story.

McCrery said Julianne McCrery, who is both Ian and Camden's mother, was loving and caring even through adverse times.

She was one of the greatest mothers ever, he said. She did whatever she could with what little she had. She tried her very best, always took care of me growing up. And, when my brother was born, she was extremely devoted.

McCrery, who is currently serving with the Navy, said he last spoke to his mother on Saturday and said he noticed something was different.

I asked if anything was wrong, he said. I could tell in her voice that she was either upset or something, but she said she was okay.

Now hearing the news of his brother's death, he said a piece of the puzzle is missing.

I know in my heart she wouldn't do anything malicious, he said. This has to be an accident; there is no way .

McCrery said he is looking for answers, especially as to how they ended up in Maine.

Maybe another party that no one knows about because I don't know why the hell she would be in Maine, he said.

LuRae McCrery, Camden's grandmother, put out a letter thanking total strangers for having vigils in her grandson's honor.

It seems like a very bad nightmare from which I will never wake up, she said. Camden was a very smart and bright little boy. He was in kindergarten and in the gifted children's program. One teacher said a while ago that he could read at the second grade level. Camden and I share the same birthday on March 15, and my birthday will never be the same again. God has him in his arms right now and he will be safe.

For funeral expenses, a fund has been set up under the name of the Camden Hughes Memorial Fund, which can be mailed or deposited at the NorthStar Bank of Texas located at 3301 Teasley Lane; Denton, TX 76201.
