HOUSTON Firefighters were able to contain a three-alarm fire Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital not far from the Gulf Freeway.

Hospital officials said the something had been burning in a mechanical room on the second floor, whihc generated a large amount of heavy smoke.

Dozens of vehicles responded to the hospital located in the 11900 block of Astoria Boulevard.

Smoke could be seen coming from a first floor window firefighters with axes broke out from inside.

The first two alarms were pulled just after 4:30 p.m. A third alarm called in at 5:20 p.m.

Hospital staff and patients are not allowed in the mechanical room, and no other injuries were reported.
