Eric Merz, who was accused of killing his wife at their McKinney residence last month, took his own life on Sunday afternoon.

Merz, 42, jumped from the Highway 121 overpass at U.S. 75, Allen police said. Highway traffic was delayed during the investigation.

Merz was arrested on March 6 after his wife Mary Beth was found dead by their daughter. She had been shot six times.

Eric Merz was found wounded at the same location.

Earlier this month, Merz was released on bond after completing a 30-day substance abuse program. His lawyer argued that Merz should be allowed to return to his home, but neighbors expressed concern, believing him to be dangerous.
