WEST COLUMBIA, Texas -- Dozens of workers have been cleaning up an oil spill in southeast Texas.

Shell Oil says more than 50 workers have been in the process of cleaning up the spill in Vince Bayou and in the vicinity of West Columbia, Texas since April 3. West Columbia is located about 60 miles southwest of Houston.

Officials estimate about 50 barrels of crude actually got into the bayou. More than 900 barrels seeped into the soil around the bayou.

Shell says the source of the leak is unknown. The West Columbia pipeline was shot down on March 29.

Shell officials say they are working with federal, state and local authorities as they move forward in their response efforts.
