HARRIS COUNTY, Texas An apparent attempted car theft turned deadly in northeast Harris County late Monday night, and now the victim s brother has words for the person responsible.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff s Office said it was around midnight when a neighbor called 911 to report a shooting at a home near Kentshire Drive and Thorn Street. The witness said three suspects fled the scene in a PT Cruiser.
Deputies later spotted the car and, after a brief chase, all three men jumped out and ran. Two were immediately caught, but one got away. All three suspects are believed to be teenagers.
Investigators at the home found a man shot dead in his garage.
Family members identified the victim as Lamarque Samuels, 32.
Samuels was well liked and well known, his family said. He quit his job to take care of his sick mother who just passed away.
He was the neighborhood good guy, said his neighbor Nikki Smith. Didn t harm nobody, didn t bother nobody, he would give you the clothes on his back if he had to just to help you out.
The victim s brother said he believes the criminals were after his brother s car, a modified Dodge Charger. The victim heard a noise in his garage and caught the alleged thieves in the act. One of the burglars pulled out a gun and shot and killed the victim.
Turn yourself in man because they re going to get you regardless, said the victim s brother. They re gonna get you. They know who you are. So, you took somebody s child, and you took my brother away. You know. You senselessly took the life it just doesn t make sense. They re gonna get you.
One neighbor said he saw the men go in the garage before the gunshots rang out. He said the men walked out of the garage before going back in and firing two more shots.
I yelled out, hey what are y all doing! and I turned around and ran back in the house and called 911, said the witness, who didn t want to be identified.
